This was an initiative of Auroville International, which came out of meetings held in Berlin and Switzerland. It was decided to organise a ceremony of re-dedication for the International Zone, in order to help stimulate more interest in Auroville and around the world, and hopefully stimulate development in the Zone. The event was a big success, and resulted in a resurgence of interest in the Zone and the funding of a new well in the area to provide water for new development.

AVI groups in Europe have been meeting regularly in Berlin, at the Sri Aurobindo and AVI Centre there to discuss topics connected with the European representation in the International Zone of Auroville. There is a broad consensus that the various European groups should work together to create an European area in the International Zone, with common facilities and a collective space. European meetings have also been held in Switzerland and in Cork in Ireland.
